OUR TEAM

Dr. Erica Gernon
Co-Owner & Veterinarian

Dr. Erica has always loved animals and dreamed of becoming a veterinarian since she was a little girl. Growing up surrounded by cats and one special Portuguese Water Dog, Abby, she always envisioned a career caring for animals. After earning her undergraduate degree in Zoology from the University of Guelph, she completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College. Dr. Erica has worked with cats and dogs in a general practice setting since she graduated.

When she’s not at the clinic, Dr. Erica enjoys spending time with her husband, Conor, and their four cats in Ancaster. She loves traveling and exploring new places, especially spending time at the cottage with her family. Dr. Erica is dedicated to providing your pets with the best possible care while keeping you informed and supported every step of the way. Along with Dr. Alanna and Dr. Jenny, Dr. Erica is excited to welcome you to the clinic!

    Dr. Alanna Schad
    Co-Owner & Veterinarian

Dr. Alanna has dreamed of being a veterinarian since kindergarten and always hoped to own a practice where she could help animals and their families live their best lives. She is grateful to have partnered with Dr. Erica and Dr. Jenny to make that dream a reality at Maple Vets University Plaza.

Dr. Alanna grew up in a rural community north of Toronto and completed her Bachelor of Science at Queen’s University before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College in 2009. After graduation, she worked in a mixed animal practice in Woodstock before focusing entirely on cats and dogs. Dr. Alanna enjoys both medical and surgical aspects of veterinary medicine, and she loves meeting puppies, kittens, and new pets while helping care for them year after year.

Outside of work, Dr. Alanna enjoys spending time with her husband and two little girls, along with their boxer puppy, Ripley. She loves the outdoors, reading, traveling, and playing hockey when time allows.

    Dr. Jennifer Burns
    Co-Owner & Veterinarian

Dr. Jenny is originally from the west of Ireland, where her love of animals began on the farm. She graduated from University College Dublin in 2008 and worked in the UK and Ireland before relocating to Canada in 2019 with her husband and two small boys.

Dr. Jenny has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery and dentistry, having completed extensive further training in these areas. Establishing Maple Vets has been a long-held dream, and she is grateful to have Dr. Alanna and Dr. Erica alongside her.

In her spare time, Dr. Jenny enjoys traveling, cycling, and hiking. She’s aiming to complete a triathlon soon and may need a little encouragement!

    Dr. Natasha Grego
    Veterinarian

Dr. Natasha has always felt a special connection with animals, a passion that naturally led her to a career in veterinary medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree at McMaster University before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Ontario Veterinary College. She is dedicated to working closely with pet owners to provide thoughtful, compassionate care and help their pets live happy, healthy lives.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Natasha enjoys listening to music, playing board games, and spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She also loves life with her Irish Setter, Sophie, who keeps things fun and full of energy. Dr. Natasha is excited to be part of the team and looks forward to meeting you and your pets!

    Lyndsay
    Reception/CSR

My name is Lyndsay and I am one of the receptionists at Maple Vets!

I have over 6 years of experience in clinic care, both in Emergency and in General Practice. My goal is to keep things running smoothly while making both you and your pets feel at ease.

I’ve been an animal lover my whole life. It all started with my childhood Golden Retriever – Breezy, and now a proud cat mom to four cats – Freyja (pictured), Kenobi, Han Solo and Indy. Outside the clinic, you’ll find me reading, hiking, or spending time with my husband and stepdaughter creating art and camping.

    Reception/CSR

    CURRENTLY ON PARENTAL LEAVE

My name is Matthew and I have been working in the animal field for 20 years. I graduated the animal care program at Sheridan college and since then have worked in a wide range of animal care positions. I have a passion for fostering neonatal or sick kittens/puppies and watching them grow up strong and healthy. I’ve owned a wide range of animals from reptiles, creepy crawlers, pocket pets, and of course dogs and cats!

I currently have 2 dogs, 4 cats, and a tree frog ranging from the ages 1.5-14 years old. As Maple Vets doors open, I am honoured to continue my career learning, bringing joy, and caring for our furry friends!

    Burke
    RVT

Burke is a Registered Veterinary Technician who graduated from Seneca College in 2020. Having grown up in Toronto surrounded by cats and dogs, her passion for animal care started early. She has a strong interest in anesthesia, surgery, and dentistry, where she focuses on providing safe, attentive care for her patients.

In 2017, Burke spent a year living in Brisbane, Australia with her partner, Mike, an experience that reinforced her passion for helping animals. She has been living in Hamilton since 2022.

At home, Burke has three cats—Reginald, Miles, and Charles. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys music (especially Taylor Swift), collecting vinyl records, hiking, strength training, and iced coffee.

    Annika
    RVT

Hi, I’m Annika! I graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Sheridan College in 2022 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician later that year. I love being involved in all aspects of patient care—from preventative health and client education to hands-on support in surgery and dentistry. While I’m particularly passionate about companion animal nutrition, dentistry, and surgery, I genuinely enjoy the variety that comes with veterinary medicine and the opportunity to continuously learn and grow in this field. Being able to advocate for my patients and support their comfort, health, and well-being is what makes this career so rewarding to me.

At home, I live with my partner and our three cats—Finn, Neo, and Maverick—who keep life entertaining and remind me every day why I love what I do. Outside of the clinic, you’ll often find me horseback riding, enjoying nature walks, or unwinding with video games.

    Gabby
    ACA

Gabby has been working in veterinary medicine for three years as an Animal Care Assistant, and has developed a special interest in nutrition, soft tissue surgery, and client education. Her role has evolved to include both Customer Service Representative and Animal Care Assistant responsibilities, allowing her to continually learn and grow each day while supporting both clients and patients. From welcoming pets as they arrive at the clinic, to assisting our team during procedures, holding patients safely for exams, and helping out in surgery, she aims to make every patient feel safe, cared for, and comfortable throughout their visit. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and friends and shares her home with two cats, Ivy and Tulip who keep life entertaining. In her downtime, she loves to read and play video games.

    Andrea
    ACA

Ever since Andrea can remember she wanted to work with and help animals. She started in the animal industry as a dog grooming assistant and then worked in pet stores before being introduced into the world of veterinary medicine in 2017. Over the years she expanded her knowledge which sparked her interest in surgery procedures, assisting, and general medicine. She currently splits her time between a surgical referral hospital and our team here at Maple Vets, giving her the best of both worlds!

When she isn’t caring for your fur babies, you may find her cheering on The Blue Jays, playing video games, or spending time with her wife and four-legged family. Her cats, Luna and Reese (pictured above), and her dogs, Gus and Sam.
